- The New York DMV does not accept out-of-state insurance for a vehicle registered in New York. Coverage must come from a company licensed by the Department of Financial Services and certified by the DMV.
- Your insurance and registration must show exactly the same name. A mismatch can lead to suspension.
- Liability coverage must stay in effect while the registration is valid, even if you do not use the vehicle. Turn in your plates before coverage ends if you plan to cancel.
- The DMV does not provide rate information. The Department of Financial Services supervises insurers.
