What we publish

16 guides on coverages, limits and deductibles, claims, flood and earthquake gaps, life insurance types, health plan costs and the ACA Marketplace. Each one lists its sources and the date it was last reviewed.
51 state summaries built from each state's own agencies. They show required coverage, penalties, official contacts and sources. Every state and the District of Columbia has one. Browse all states.
A life insurance estimator that shows its arithmetic and assumptions, and worked examples that are always labeled hypothetical.

How we decide what is true

State rules come from the state's insurance department, motor vehicle agency or statutes. When a secondary website disagrees with an official page, we use the official page, and we say so when a limit has changed recently. If we cannot verify something important, we leave it out or say it is unverified. The full method is on How we work.

What we are not

We are not an insurance company, agent or broker. We do not sell policies, give quotes or handle claims, and nothing here is insurance, legal, tax or financial advice. We do not publish average premiums unless we can show the source, date, geography and method, and we do not call an insurer best or cheapest without a defined method. See the disclaimer.

This site is independent. Any advertising is clearly labeled and kept separate from content, and content is not written to push ad clicks.

Corrections

Insurance rules change. If you see something wrong or out of date, tell us the page and, if you can, link the official source. We check it against the primary source and update the page when it changes.
