Insurance affects real money and real care, so we hold every page to the same few rules. This page sets them out. How we find and check facts is on How we verify what we publish.

Last updated October 7, 2026

Our purpose

Simple Insurance Guide helps ordinary people understand US car, home, life and health insurance in plain English, and see what applies in their state. We write to inform, not to sell. We are not an insurance company, agent, broker or government agency.

What we publish, and what we do not

  • We publish explanations, state summaries and comparisons that answer a real question and can be traced to an official source.
  • We do not publish pages created only because a keyword exists, near-copies of one article with another state's name, rankings without a method, invented statistics, quotes, reviews or testimonials, or advice about your personal situation.
  • A page that cannot say something specific and checked about a place or topic is not created.

How we handle news and current events

We follow a development only when something has actually changed and a reliable source exists, ideally the agency that made the change, such as a state insurance department, CMS, HealthCare.gov, Medicare.gov, the NAIC, FEMA or the Bureau of Labor Statistics. We do not report rumors, we do not chase every headline, and we avoid sensational wording.

A page about a current development states its date and covers: what changed, who is affected, why it matters, and what a consumer can do. It links the original or official source, and separates what is confirmed from what is our analysis. Where we can, we update an existing page and keep its address instead of starting a new one, so that pages become more reliable over time.

Dates: reviewed and updated

  • Last reviewed is the month we last checked a page against its sources.
  • Last updated is an exact date, shown on pages that follow current events. Those pages also keep an update log that says what changed.
  • We aim to recheck every page at least once a year, and sooner when a deadline passes or a source changes. Pages with time-sensitive dates are rechecked when those dates pass. Our deadlines page lists what is coming up.

How we use tools, including AI

We use software, including AI-assisted tools, to help research, draft and organize content. These tools can make mistakes, so they never decide a fact: each figure, date and legal requirement has to be supported by a source cited on the page, and we correct errors when we find them. We do not name individual authors or claim that pages are written or reviewed by licensed insurance, legal or medical professionals. The publisher is responsible for what appears here.

Independence and advertising

Nothing here is paid for by an insurer, and the site currently carries no sponsored content and no affiliate links. We do not rank or recommend insurers. If we ever show advertising, it will be clearly labeled, kept apart from content and never written into articles, and we will never ask you to click ads. If sponsored content or affiliate links are ever added, we will label them and update this page first. See our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy for how advertising is handled.

Errors and corrections

If something is wrong or out of date, tell us which page it is on and, if you can, link the official source. We check each report against the primary source and correct confirmed errors. The page shows the new date, and for significant changes the update log says what changed.
