If you drive without required coverage
Under Wyoming Statute 31-4-103, operating a motor vehicle without the required liability coverage is a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail, a fine, or both. The statute's fines have been amended over time and range up to $1,500 in the current text, so confirm the exact amount for your situation. A driver who cannot show proof of financial responsibility has seven days to produce it. On a second or later violation, the judge requires the registration and plates to be delivered to the county treasurer until the court's conditions are met. The Wyoming Department of Transportation adds that after an accident without proof of insurance it asks for an SR-21 verifying coverage at the time of the accident, or security (a certified check or a certificate of deposit), or a notarized conditional release of liability, and it may require an SR-22 from an insurer authorized in Wyoming.
