If you drive without required coverage
The Rhode Island DMV's affidavit of compliance lists the penalties for failing to comply: a minimum fine of $500 and a maximum of $5,000, and revocation of the vehicle registration and license plates for three months for a first offense, six months for a second offense and one year for a third or later offense. A later violation is a misdemeanor, and punishment may include a fine of up to $5,000, up to a year in prison, or both.
