Notices
What to know in New Hampshire.
- New Hampshire is the only state whose motor vehicle laws do not require drivers to carry auto insurance. The Insurance Department recommends buying it anyway, so that you meet the financial responsibility requirements if you are in an at-fault accident.
- Because the law does not require insurance, the driver who hits you may have none. Uninsured motorist coverage is designed for that situation.
- The Department's guide describes underinsured motorist coverage as included with the uninsured motorist coverage in any purchase of auto liability coverage.
