- Illinois law requires underinsured motorist coverage if you buy higher limits of uninsured motorist bodily injury coverage.
- Illinois law does not require collision or comprehensive coverage, but a lender may require it for a financed vehicle.
- Illinois law requires insurers to offer uninsured motorist property damage coverage with a maximum $250 deductible. It is optional.
- If you cannot find auto insurance, ask your agent about the Illinois Auto Insurance Plan. The Department lists four requirements, including being turned down by other insurers and having a safe-to-drive vehicle.
- The Department advises asking for a non-bound application before you switch companies, so you have an answer on acceptance and price before you cancel your current policy.
